I love to carve wood. I experimented with different types of wood and found that I enjoy the durability and resistance of maple; it is a very hard wood to carve but you can get a lot of detail. I use maple to make spoons. I did this series of spoons that were not necessarily utilitarian, but rather more sculptural and decorative — meant to be looked at and held.
Then I decided to make woodcut cards using maple; the maple allowed me to get very sharp images and to make a very durable printing plate. I made a series of Christmas images. I also tried working in different types of wood — for the print making I would like to do a series using linoleum and hopefully make repeatable patterns so that I am able to make printed fabric.
